Yizkor

Our thoughts are always with our deceased, and somehow everything good that we do helps them (Like helping others, or trying to be better people, better Jews) since our actions reflect on our loved ones and bring them a little closer. more to Gd. However, according to tradition, there is something in particular that we can do for them...

One of the main things we can do for our beloved relatives who have passed away is "Yizkor" (Remembrance).

Yizkor is something direct and powerful It involves praying and committing to give Tzedaka in her name. This is not a new idea, ancient Jewish sources (such as the Midrash Tanhuma ) mention the practice of Tzedakah in memory of the deceased in the context of the prayers of Yom Kippur.

Yizkor is recited in the temple after the Torah reading on the last day of Passover , the second day of Shavuot , Shemini Atzeret Y Yom Kippur . The idea of ​​this prayer is to connect with our deceased loved ones and help their souls. We must also put this concept into action by committing ourselves to give Tzedaka in his memory after the party. This positive action is something they can no longer do, but we (because of our deep attachment to them) can do on their behalf.

Yizkor is recited by those who have lost a father or mother. In some cases, it may also be recited by others (consult your Rabbi).
