Shofar's have always held a prominent place in Biblical history. Their sounds have often called the Jews to war and signified their victory. The Shofar cannot be made from a cow's or calf's horn, since according to Jewish tradition, it would be equivalent to remembering the worship of the golden calf (prohibited in the Torah - Old Testament).
